Quick Summary
This discussion explores accounting software options for small businesses, particularly those in shipping, looking for alternatives to QuickBooks. Several popular choices are mentioned, including Busy, Tally, Zoho Books, Xero, FreshBooks, Sage, and Wave. The consensus is that the best software depends on individual business needs, such as transaction volume, inventory tracking requirements, tax compliance, and user-friendliness. Trying out free trials of a few different options is highly recommended before making a final decision.

Busy is too good

Tally and Zoho Books.

Tally is good only if you have knowledge of using it otherwise Busy is good and user friendly

I have used Busy in the past at my uncle's pharmacy store in Kota. I can't say for sure if it is the best, because it is the only one I have ever used. However, my uncle has used it for many years and he seems to be very happy with it.

You can take a free trial of Busy and see if it fits your requirement.

  • Excellent inventory module that will positively affect your cash flow
  • Simple start-up process
  • Built-in CRM function
  • Synchronizes with client’s banking info for automatic bookkeeping
  • Manufacturing Business

We use Tally, it's very convenient for our company, but my colleague who works for a competitor, they work on another program. You have to try and choose.

If you’re looking beyond QuickBooks, there are actually quite a few good options for small businesses now, especially for shipping and trading businesses that need inventory, invoicing, and expense tracking together.

A few platforms worth looking at are:

  • Zoho Books
  • Xero
  • FreshBooks
  • Sage
  • Wave (for smaller setups)

One software I recently explored was ZYNO Books, and it seemed quite practical for small businesses that deal with orders, billing, inventory, and daily accounting in one place.

What I liked:

  • Easy invoicing and expense tracking
  • Inventory management support
  • GST/tax-ready workflows
  • Financial reporting dashboards
  • Cloud access from anywhere
  • Cleaner interface compared to some older accounting tools

For shipping businesses specifically, having inventory + accounting together saves a lot of manual work later on.

Honestly, the best choice usually depends on:

  • how many transactions you handle
  • whether you need inventory tracking
  • tax requirements
  • how comfortable your team is with accounting software

I’d suggest trying demos of 2–3 tools first before committing long term.
