4 months residential programme or gmcs?

I have never attended the residential program, but most friends suggest, either the resid. programme or GMCS better be pursued after the exams; they say the exitement created on attending the programme/ gmcs course may not be helpful for focssing on exam preparation.

also they are mainly useful after writing exams because, they provide the forum for placement, it seems.
