16 Digit Bank Account

Efiling 7278 views 4 replies

Account Holders of Punjab National Bank are likely to face difficulty in e-filing their IT Returns. The limit prescribed for entering Bank Account Number in IT Return is limited to 15 Digits. All Accounts in CBS branches of Punjab National Bank  are with 16 Digits.

When the account number is entered in IT Return, it accepts only 15 digits and omits the last digit on the right side. This lapse will deprive the Account Holders of Punjab National Bank to get their IT REfund credited to their accounts. They will have to opt for refund through Cheque.

Neither IT Department nor PNB has taken any action to resolve this difficulty.

Views of members are invited on the above technical limitation.

Cheers,

Kumars

There is no problem. Generally banks allots account no. to their clients in 10-16 digits but they have initial 2-4 digit common.

Therefore you should ask to bank for common digits assign to account nos. and you may fill in IT forms remaining uncommon unique digits allotted to you by bank.

Have the banks notified those common digits which can be omitted while providing the account number to IT department?

Let the banks notify such changes for the benefit of the account holders.

Dear Mr. S. Kumar,

I think banks already notified the common digits of account nos. to the accounts holders for submitting the same to the authorities

Dear Mr. Amit,

May I request you to share the information which the banks have notified to their account holders?

This will help resolve the technical difficulty in entering 16 digit Bank Account numbers in IT Return.
