'a' or 'an'?

I have a doubt which may not be relevant to CA/CWA/CS but it would be helpful for me as a student if you can clarify this:

Which article i.e., 'a' or 'an' should be used before the worlds starting with the letter 'h'?

For example, refer the following:

The Blind CA Student has to take an under-graduate as ___ (a/an) helper to the Examination hall for writing the exam.

In the above sentence, which article (a/an) should be used for filling the blank?

its "A" because its specific about under graduate

A.. :) :P

Well depends on case to case... Like in case of word HONEST we use 'AN' before it nt 'A'... Wen we pronounce HONEST sounds comes of 'O' n nt 'H'...n 'O' being a vovel therefore we use 'AN'... Wereas in case of HELPER wen we pronounce it sounds comes of 'H'...n its nt a vovel thats y we use 'A' n nt 'AN' I hope u wil get it nw.

Yup...the article a  for consonants and consonant sounds.......

Sangita        AN   IS USED BEFORE VOWEL

                                  AND

A isused before consonants
