The Jammu and Kashmir State Taxes Department on Saturday conducted search and seizure operations at multiple locations across the Jammu division. The drive targeted several tax malpractices including invoice trading without actual supply, fake e-way bills, and fraudulent input tax credit (ITC) claims.
An official spokesperson confirmed that the department acted on intelligence reports highlighting tax evasion through bogus transactions, non-existent physical movement of goods, and falsified toll records. In several cases, fake e-way bills showed interstate movement of goods that never occurred.

Enforcement Drive Details
A total of 13 enforcement teams were deployed throughout the region to conduct on-site verifications, scrutinise bill books, assess stock positions, and cross-check toll records with e-way bills and other transaction documents. These efforts aimed to detect discrepancies in compliance with GST laws.
Statement from the Commissioner
Speaking on the development, P. K. Bhat, Commissioner of State Taxes, J&K, said:
"This inspection drive is a proactive measure to protect public revenue and enforce fair trade practices. We are committed to taking strict action against tax law violators, while ensuring full support to honest and law-abiding taxpayers."
Advisory to Businesses
The State Taxes Department has urged all registered businesses and taxpayers to maintain proper records, issue genuine invoices, and adhere strictly to GST norms to avoid penalties, interest, or prosecution. The department also encouraged the public and businesses to report suspected tax evasion through its official communication channels.
Growing Focus on GST Compliance
This operation underscores the government's intensifying efforts to clamp down on tax evasion in the GST regime, which impacts both state revenue and fair market competition. Similar drives are expected to be carried out in other regions as part of the department's ongoing compliance enforcement strategy.
