ICAI Releases Updated UDIN Portal Manual: New Features for GST, Tax Audit & Certificates

Last updated: 17 December 2025

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released the updated User Manual of the UDIN Portal (Version 1.2), incorporating several functional enhancements aimed at improving usability, compliance, and verification efficiency. The revised manual, reviewed on December 15, 2025, provides detailed guidance on UDIN generation, bulk uploads, verification, grievance redressal and dashboard analytics for ICAI members.

The UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) system remains accessible through the existing URL https://udin.icai.org, with SSP credentials now being the sole login method, completely abolishing the first-time registration process. Upon login, members are greeted with an enhanced dashboard featuring year-wise UDIN analytics, category-wise pie charts, and sub-category insights, allowing members to track their certification and audit activities more effectively.

ICAI Releases Updated UDIN Portal Manual: New Features for GST, Tax Audit and Certificates

Key Enhancements in UDIN Generation for Certificates, GST & Tax Audit

Under the Certificates category, ICAI has strengthened data accuracy by introducing dynamic input fields that automatically adjust based on whether the data entered is numeric, alphanumeric, or both. Members must now enter a mandatory Document Description (5-250 characters), ensuring better traceability while restricting the use of special characters.

For GST & Tax Audit and Audit & Assurance Functions, the portal now mandates capturing the PAN of the assessee/auditee for validation with the Income-tax e-Filing portal. Importantly, this PAN remains invisible to the verifier, maintaining confidentiality. Additionally, ICAI has introduced compulsory disclosure of the Auditor's Opinion on Financial Statements and optional capture of preceding year auditor details, as approved by the Council.

Another significant update applies to Statutory Bank Branch Audits, where members must mandatorily report Memorandum of Changes (MoC) values. These figures are fully encrypted and are not visible to third-party verifiers, ensuring data security.

Bulk UDIN, Revocation & Advanced Filtering Features

The Bulk UDIN Generation feature allows members to generate up to 300 UDINs at one time, using category-specific Excel templates. Errors can be corrected directly on the UI before submission, reducing rework.

The List UDIN module now supports advanced filters such as document type, signing date, auditor's opinion, and previous year audit details. Members can download UDIN records in CSV or PDF formats, print individual or bulk UDINs, and revoke UDINs within 48 hours of generation using OTP authentication. Once revoked, a UDIN cannot be reinstated.

Improved Grievance Redressal & Real-Time UDIN Verification

ICAI has strengthened the Grievance Module, allowing both members and external users to raise complaints with file attachments up to 5 MB in multiple formats. Users can track grievance status, view activity logs, and reopen resolved cases if required.

For stakeholders such as banks, regulators, and authorities, the Verify UDIN facility enables real-time single or bulk verification using OTP-based authentication on both mobile and email, enhancing document credibility and trust.

What This Means for ICAI Members

With these updates, ICAI aims to enhance transparency, compliance, and data security in certification and audit documentation. Members are advised to carefully review the updated UDIN Portal Manual and ensure accurate data entry to avoid validation issues during regulatory filings.
