The State Goods and Services Tax (GST) department has launched a 10-day special compliance drive across all eight districts of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Zone to clear a large backlog of pending GSTR-3B returns. The focused campaign is being conducted from December 10 to December 20, targeting thousands of taxpayers who have not filed their returns despite repeated reminders.
According to officials, the division currently has 74,371 active GST taxpayers, out of which 8,605 have pending GSTR-3B filings up to November 2025. Once these returns are filed, the department expects to generate around Rs 47.63 crore in State GST (SGST). The zone has already collected Rs 2,950 crore in GST revenue till November, highlighting the importance of timely compliance to strengthen state finances.

Under GST law, every registered taxpayer is required to file GSTR-3B by the 20th of each month. The return is a self-declared summary through which taxpayers report their tax liability, reverse charge mechanism (RCM) liability, and input tax credit (ITC), and also make the actual GST payment. Non-filing attracts automatic late fees and interest under the GSTN system, with penalties going up to Rs 50,000. In cases where two or more returns remain pending, authorities may freeze bank accounts, while non-filing of six consecutive returns can lead to cancellation of GST registration.
Emphasising the seriousness of the issue, Abhijit Raut, Additional Commissioner (State GST), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Zone, urged taxpayers to utilise the special window to regularise their compliance. "Out of 74,371 active taxpayers in the division, 8,605 have not filed their GSTR-3B. I appeal to all such taxpayers to submit their pending returns during this drive and avoid legal consequences, including penalties or bank account action," he said.
Officials clarified that the objective of the campaign is not punitive, but to provide an opportunity for taxpayers to clean up pending compliances and avoid stricter action later. Timely filing, they said, will help businesses maintain a healthy compliance record while also contributing to the state's revenue mobilisation efforts.
