The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on January 2, 2009, had approved "National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology" (NME-ICT), with an outlay of Rs.4612 Crore for the benefit of students of higher education. Under NME-ICT programme, besides e-content being developed in a number of subjects and making it available free of cost to learners through Fibre Optics and internet connectivity at universities and colleges, the Govt., has ensured the content also reaches student's homes and has therefore approved delivery of educational content through launch of 1000 DTH channels on 24X7 basis for every subject, for every class, in various languages to the extent possible.
These channels will deliver structured lectures in almost all the subjects/ disciplines, which shall be delivered mostly live, by teachers. The learners can have live interaction during every hour with the teachers present in the studio,by asking questions from anywhere in the country, via video conferencing (Skype/AVIEW etc), mobile, land line, SMS, e-mail, etc, and seek instantaneous answers from the teachers.
