The Income Tax Department has announced that ITR-2 is now officially enabled for online filing with prefilled data on the Income Tax e-Filing portal. This move is set to simplify the return filing process for millions of taxpayers who fall under the ITR-2 category, particularly individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) not having income from business or profession.

What is ITR-2?
Form ITR-2 is used by:
- Individuals and HUFs not earning income from business or profession
- Those who have capital gains, foreign assets or income from more than one house property
- Residents and non-residents with income exceeding Rs 50 lakh
Key Features of the Online Mode
- Prefilled data such as salary, interest income, TDS and other details are already available with the Income Tax Department
- User-friendly interface for real-time validation and guidance
- Elimination of the need to upload JSON files manually
- Seamless integration with AIS, Form 26AS and bank details
Taxpayers can now log in to the e-Filing portal, select 'File ITR', choose ITR-2 and file their return end-to-end using the guided online flow.
