The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Shalini Bhargava, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Chandigarh and was led locally by Raja Ghosh, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Range Shimla.

In her opening remarks, Shalini Bhargava emphasized the importance of timely advance tax payments in improving the fiscal ecosystem and reducing last-minute tax burdens. Raja Ghosh added that such outreach initiatives play a pivotal role in building trust between the department and taxpayers.

Key Highlights of the Session

The technical session was spearheaded by Narender Kumar from Circle Shimla, who delivered a detailed presentation covering:

  • Who is liable to pay the advance tax
  • How to estimate and calculate advance tax liability
  • Due dates and modes of payment
  • Penalties for non-compliance
  • Benefits to taxpayers and the exchequer

The presentation, enriched with visuals and practical examples, helped demystify common doubts and highlighted the mutual benefits of advance tax-ensuring a smoother revenue collection process for the government and avoiding interest or penalties for taxpayers.

Stakeholder Engagement Praised

Participants lauded the department's proactive approach and suggested regular such sessions in the future, particularly during key tax calendar milestones. The event concluded with an open Q&A session where professionals received clarifications on various scenarios specific to their industries.

This outreach programme forms part of the Income Tax Department's broader strategy to promote transparency, taxpayer education, and voluntary compliance, aligning with the government's vision of a more informed and responsible taxpayer base.
