India has experienced a significant surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), attracting US$72.12 billion between April 2020 and January 2021. This figure represents the highest ever for the first ten months of a financial year, marking a 15% increase compared to the previous year. The Computer Software & Hardware sector has been the primary recipient, drawing in 45.81% of total FDI equity inflow. Singapore, the USA, and the UAE have been the leading investor countries during this period.

For the first ten months of FY 2020-21, Singapore led with 30.28% of total FDI equity inflow, followed by the USA (24.28%) and the UAE (7.31%). In January 2021 specifically, Japan led with 29.09%.
The increase in FDI inflows is attributed to the measures taken by the Government on FDI policy reforms, investment facilitation, and ease of doing business.
