Last updated: 13 January 2026

Commissioner P Anand Kumar of the Guntur Audit Commissionerate, Andhra Pradesh, has described GST 2.0 as a comprehensive reset of India's indirect tax framework, aimed at simplifying tax rates, strengthening compliance, and ensuring faster dispute resolution.

Speaking at an interactive session jointly organised by the CBIC and Sri City on January 9, 2026, the Commissioner highlighted how the next phase of GST reforms is reshaping both business compliance and the role of tax auditors.

Auditors to Play Expanded Advisory and Strategic Roles

Anand Kumar noted that under GST 2.0, auditors are no longer confined to traditional compliance checks. Instead, they are expected to take on expanded responsibilities in advisory services, risk management, and digital adoption.

"With enhanced e-invoicing systems, faster refunds and paperless audits, compliance has become easier for businesses while tax evasion is effectively curbed," he said, adding that auditors now play a strategic role in guiding enterprises through regulatory reforms.

GST 2.0 Aligned With the Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047

The Commissioner explained that GST 2.0, which came into effect on September 22, 2025, aligns with the Prime Minister's long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted that the simplified two-rate GST structure of 5% and 18% is designed to reduce household tax burden, widen the tax base and ensure sustained revenue growth for the government.

The reforms also focus on leveraging technology to improve transparency, reduce litigation and create a more taxpayer-friendly ecosystem.

Industry Awareness Key to Smooth Transition

The programme was aimed at enhancing industry awareness about GST 2.0 reforms, updated compliance requirements and the evolving expectations from auditors and businesses alike.

The Managing Director of Sri City welcomed the initiative, stating that such interactive sessions help businesses adapt smoothly to changing policy frameworks. He also recalled his long-standing association with Commissioner Anand Kumar and acknowledged his contribution during Sri City's formative years.

Interactive Session Encourages Industry Engagement

Assistant Commissioner Nagaraj of the GST Tirupati region introduced the Commissioner, outlined the objectives of the session, and encouraged participants to engage actively by raising queries and seeking clarity after the lecture.

Tax professionals and industry participants present at the session noted that GST 2.0 marks a significant shift towards a simplified, technology-driven and growth-oriented tax regime, with auditors playing a central role in its successful implementation.
