The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has stated that it does not have any legislative or non-legislative matters to be taken up during the upcoming Budget Session 2026. The clarification has been communicated to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MPA) through an official Office Memorandum issued on January 15, 2026.
The memorandum, released by the GST Policy Wing from Kartavya Bhavan-I, New Delhi, was sent in response to the MPA’s request for information on Bills and other government business proposed for the Budget Session.

As per the communication, Part I relating to Legislative Business records "NIL", indicating that no Bills concerning GST, Customs, or other indirect tax laws are proposed to be introduced, discussed, or passed during the session.
Likewise, Part II covering Non-Legislative Business also shows "NIL", confirming that no reports, statements, or issues of public importance connected with indirect taxation are scheduled for parliamentary presentation.
The Office Memorandum has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority and is signed by Prashant Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (GST). The update suggests that Parliament is unlikely to witness any direct legislative activity relating to indirect taxes during the Budget Session, even as stakeholders await possible policy announcements in the Union Budget.
