Automatic GST Registration in 3 Days: Centre to Roll Out GST 2.0 from November 2025

Last updated: 28 October 2025

The government will launch a simplified GST registration system under the GST 2.0 reforms package from November 1, 2025. The new framework promises automatic registration approvals within three working days for most applicants, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Thursday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new CGST Bhawan in Ghaziabad, Sitharaman said the system will rely on data-driven risk analysis and self-assessment, replacing discretion with automation and transparency. "The focus is now shifting from policy design to field-level execution. The system must work by design, not by discretion," she emphasised.

Two-Track Simplified Registration

Automatic registration approval will apply to:

  1. Applicants identified through risk and data analytics, and
  2. Businesses self-assessing a monthly tax liability below Rs 2.5 lakh.

According to the Finance Minister, nearly 96% of new GST applicants are expected to qualify for automatic approval. The move is designed to enhance the "ease of doing business" and promote a more taxpayer-friendly compliance ecosystem.

Next-Generation GST Reforms

Under the broader GST 2.0 package, the government has also:

  • Rationalised GST rate slabs to simplify tax structures,
  • Introduced automated refund and risk-based audit systems, and
  • Simplified return-filing procedures through a unified digital interface.

Sitharaman said these changes will make the indirect tax system "more efficient, equitable and growth-oriented."

Focus on Dignity and Accountability

Reiterating the need for fairness in tax administration, Sitharaman told CBIC officials that taxpayers must be treated with dignity, even as the government maintains a firm stance on evasion. "Wrongdoers can't escape, but honest taxpayers should never be harassed," she said.

To enhance service delivery, the Finance Minister directed that GST Seva Kendras be fully staffed, accessible, and equipped with dedicated helpdesks for registration-related support. She also urged quicker resolution of disciplinary proceedings within the tax administration, stating that accountability strengthens institutional credibility.

Economic Outlook and Retail Growth

Citing data from the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Sitharaman noted record Diwali retail sales of Rs 6.05 trillion, up 25% year-on-year, with 87% of buyers choosing Indian-made products. She credited recent GST rate cuts on essential and consumer goods for fueling this festive demand.

"With continued reforms and integrity, we'll achieve new heights in compliance and service delivery. Our ultimate goal is to make life easier for honest taxpayers," she concluded.
