WHETHER TO FILE RETURN - INCOME ABOVE 2.5 AND LESS THAN 5 - AGE 90

The income of a super senior citizen (age 90) is above 2.50 lakhs but less than 5 lakhs.  Has he to file a return for ay 21-22?  Please suggest.

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses whether a super senior citizen aged 90, with an income between £2.5 lakhs and £5 lakhs for AY 21-22, is required to file a tax return. While income up to £5 lakhs is generally not taxable, the consensus is that if Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) has been applied, filing a return is necessary to claim a refund.

Income up to Rs 5,00,000*
No tax
Not required to file ITR
As his taxable income not exceeding Rs. 5 lacs return of income need not be filled

Up to Rs. 5,00,000 no tax means meaning not required to file return of income

Thanks.  If he has been deducted TDS as the income is above 2.5 lakhs, for getting refund, has he file the return?

Yes that's the only option
If your TDS has been deducted , then even if you have income less than basic exemption , you need to file you return for claiming TDS.
For claiming refund of YDS I replied in brief yes that is the only option means the person who queried can understand
Yes for claiming TDS refund then return should be filed
