Verification of genuineness of IT Return

I have to certify the genuineness of one Income Tax return filed MANUALLY on the basis of the photo copy of Acknowledgment Receipt. There is no other document available - not even the original copy. Is there any way to find out whether the Ack. produced before me is a genuine one ? Is it possible to check this online ? Even manual returns are uploaded in the dept system by the regional offices. So can I check this online somewhere ? Also pls tell if there is any other alternative for such verification ? Pls guide.

I think you can not check the same. Unless you can check his income tax paid statement as FORM 26AS online if he had paid Income Tax via himself or Other. For this you need his PAN Number and his date of birth only. Atleast you can verify his tax deposited details with reconciliation with his ITR with FORM 26AS.

Dear Harpreet,

I agree with your reply, but what if there are no details in 26AS (no tax paid or TDS) ? Also date of birth is not available as the only document I have is a photo copy of the acknowledgement of ITR.

That the thing i am saying dear that if he has paid tax and obvious the same must be there in acknowledgment and you have to check FORM 26AS. And how can it possible that the person does not know his PAN number as well as his date of birth, who is come to you and wana get certify the ITR.

Ture, there is no such way to verify that return has been filed or not...but with the seal and the serial number written on that you can go in department and ask for the help...thy will surely help if the matter is geniune...

move to department for assessment status on the basis of such acknowledgement copy, you will get clear picture.

There is no alternative online or offline for verfication of the genuineness of any Income-tax return. The only way is to authenticate the return on the basis of original copy of ITR and in case of online ITR on the basis of PDF file of ITR.

if we have manual return is provided other than our residential state, then how we verify it's genuiness.For eg: if we are practising in delhi & manually return provided to us is of bangalore.then how ae are verify the genuiness of bangalore return in delhi.

sir i was asked by the banks for loan application on my client behalf for itr acknowldegment verification . now i need software who can verfiy the itr acknowledgment. because client never provide us the login id and password

@ Vijendra Singh,There is no software to check ITR , you can only check through online, through this link-https://www1.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-FilingGS/Services/ITRStatusLink.H T M L , and bankers will be tied up through some agencies to do such verificaions.
