Vat credit for service tax

Queries 748 views 6 replies

We are registered for service tax but are unregistered under VAT. If goods (Paint, welding rods, nut bolts etc...) are purchased and utilised (consumed) for providing services to client, credit for VAT paid for purchasing material can be taken against service tax we have to deposit? (erection, installation services)?

NICE QUERY , THIS IS COMMAN  PROBLEMS PLEASE GIVE  REPAY  ANYONE

VAT/Sales tax paid on purchases is not eligible for taking credit. Refer Rule 3 of CENVAT Credit Rules, 2004 for list of eligible credits.
Dear sir the cenvat credit of VAT is not eligible against the payment of service tax but the cenvat credit of excise duty is available for payment of service tax if you are engaged in work contract services Cenvat of VAT may be eligible for payment of VAT if you are registered under state VAT.

I was bit confussed with VAT credit mentioned in CENVAT credit rules.  Thanks for clearing doubt.

Thanks all for responding.

Dear all

I have waited for another ans.

VAT is State Legislation and revenue go to the State where sales are effected.

Service Tax is Central Legislation and revenue goes to the Central govt.

You can not pay tax to local Govt and expect credit from Central Govt.
