We were charging vat @ 5% on memory cards in rajsthan as it was IT product in March 2015 there was amendment that mobile and its accessories will be charged @ 8% it was confusion whether memory card is a mobile accessories or not we asked Sales tax department for clariefication suprisingly with their own defination they charged it as 14.5%. can now they ask the difference for previous year??

As per the clarificaiton issued by Rajasthan VAT Dept. -
Memory Cards which can be used in multiple devices (e.g. Digital Camera, Cellphone, laptops, computers, tablets, MP3 players and video game consoles etc.) would attract VAT Rate @ 14.5 %.
Thefore, Memory Card which can not be used in more than one device it will continue to attract lower VAT Rate.
