Validity period of a cheque/dd

What is the vailidity period of a Cheque/DD created prior to 31-03-2012. Whether such instrument valid for 6 months or 3 months only.

6 months....on or after 01.04.2012 : 3 months

Is there any circular or notification in this regard. I feel that bankers will follow the validity period of 3 months only irrespective of the date of cheque.

Agree With Mr Pratik

Notification comes into existence after 1st April 2012 so DD/Cheque issued before this date will be valid according to old rules/provisions. Thus, Validity period for those instruments will be 6 months. Thanks Mihir doshi

It was 6 months priod to 31.03.2012. After that it became 3 months
