one of my friend's family member met with an accident so he won't be able to appear in this november exam. i want to know, if he doesn't appear at all in any of the paper, will he have to submit any document or do any formality to appear in next attempt, i.e, may. Is the process cumbersome?

No There no formality for not appearing in any attempt.
He may appear in may attempt just after filling examination form for may.
as far as i know there is no need for submission of any document. every attempt is a seperate attempt. Its one's own wish whether he wants to appear in exams or not. your next attempt wont be affected by your previous one.
the only thing is, his attempt will get counted.

No Documents are required to be filed with the institute, just fill the examination form and appear in the next attempt.
