1.)Mary's mum has four children.

           The first child is called April.
           The second May.
           The third June.
        What is the name of the fourth child?

2.)There are six eggs in the basket. Six people each take one of the eggs. How can it be that one egg is left in the basket?

3.)You drive to the store at 20 mph and return by the same route at 30 mph. Discounting the time spent at the store, what was your average speed?

4.)At a family reunion were the following people: one grandfather, one grandmother, two fathers, two mothers, four children, three grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, two sons, two daughters, one father-in-law, one mother-in-law, and one daughter-in-law. But not as many people attended as it sounds. How many were there, and who were they?

5.)  97 baseball teams participate in an annual state tournament. The champion is chosen for this tournament by the usual elimination scheme. That is, the 97 teams are divided into pairs, and the two teams of each pair play against each other. The loser of each pair is eliminated, and the remaining teams are paired up again, etc. How many games must be played to determine a champion?

6.) A man is the owner of a winery who recently passed away. In his will, he left 21 barrels (seven of which are filled with wine, seven of which are half full, and seven of which are empty) to his three sons. However, the wine and barrels must be split so that each son has the same number of full barrels, the same number of half-full barrels, and the same number of empty barrels. Note that there are no measuring devices handy. How can the barrels and wine be evenly divided?

Realy confusing ? Please share answer.

1. Mary

2. The sixth person took the egg along with the basket.

3. 24mph

Let D be the distance. T be the time to get to the store, t be the time to get back,

and A be the average speed.

Distance = Speed X Time

  •  D = 20*T => T = D/20
  • D =  30*t  =>  t = D/30

 Now total distance = D + D = 2D   which is equal to Average speed X total time

  • 2D = A(T + t)
  • 2D = A(D/20 + D/30)
  • 2D = A(5D/60)
  • A = 120D/5D A = 24mph
  • i.e Average speed = 24mph

4. There were only two little girls and a boy (their brother), their parents,

and their father's parents, totaling seven people in the family.

5. 96 games have to be played. All teams except the champion team will lose

a game exactly once and will be eliminated.

6. Two half-full barrels are dumped into one of the empty barrels.

Two more half-full barrels are dumped into another one of the empty barrels.

This results in nine full barrels, three half-full barrels {7-(2+2)},

and nine empty barrels (7-2+4)

Each son gets three full barrels, one half-full barrel, and three empty barrels.
