con.sys file is a system file and therefore a forbidden filename.

Don't mess with the system registry if you don't know what you are doing.

I will only give partial information so that no one is tempted

You can make massive changes to Windows from the Registry Editor ("regedit" in Start/Run) - NEVER TRY WITHOUT BACK UP

For Eg. You can change the word "Start" to "Mohit"

THE REASON GIVEN ABOVE DOES NOT SEEM CORRECT. THE REASON IS
1. THIS IS CREATION OF FOLDER AND NOT A FILE.
2. FOLDER DO NOT HAVE ANY EXTENTION E.G. .SYS OR .XLS
3. CON.SYS IS A SYSTEM FILE AND NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CREATION OF FOLDER.

THE REASON IS NOT KNOWN EVEN TO BILL GATES.

Filename & Folder Name both are the included you can create neither.

hmm, have you tried to create a folder named "com1" "lpt1" "com2" ... it shouldn't work either!

But the bigger challenge is this one !!!

Just copy from here "СON" (without the quotes) and now paste it in your folder or file name .Yes you will be successful now!!!Isnt that strange.

If you write this somewhere else and copy it from there,it wont work.This is the magic.

Reason:The reason is that i am using Unicode.Instead of 67 as the ASCII code of C ,in the unicode,its code is 1057.That is why i am able to make a folder by this name.

If you create a folder named "CON" on a linux filesystem say, and open up a samba share of it, the "CON" directory shows up as being "CSHOFG~F". A "CON." file or folder shows up as "CRW2KU~B"! Very Strange!
