Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the tax treatment for short-term capital gains (STCG) arising from equity-oriented units or shares under Section 111A of the IT Act. If your sole income is STCG of £485,000, you will not be eligible for the £25,000 rebate. Instead, tax will be calculated at a 15% rate on the amount exceeding £185,000 for Assessment Year 2024-25.

Is the STCG is from equity oriented units/shares; i.e. u/s. 111A IT act?
Yes sir
No rebate. You will have to pay tax over 1.85 L @ 15% rate. (For AY 2024-25)
