Self Assessment Tax. After July 31, 2025 for ITR-1, ITR-2, adding interest on Tax

For Information of all.

The filing date for ITR-1, 2, 3 & 4 for AY2025-26 has been extended to 15 Sep 2025 from the original 31 Jul 2025. But I-T Department has not given any clarification regarding the PENALTY for payment of Self Assessment Tax after July 31,

Many have been wondering about the Self Assessment Tax payment after 31 Jul 2025, whether that would attract Penalty Interest under Section 234A. And many views have been posted on News Channels and in this forum.

Just to make sure, today rechecked the Self Assessment Tax being calculated by the Excel Utilities for ITR-1 Ver1.1, and ITR-2 Ver 1.0, for filing in August 2025.

Found that the Self Assessment Tax calculated by the Excel Utilities for August 2025 are being increased compared to Self Assessment Tax calculated for July 2025.

I Could not check the method of calculations being done by the utilities but the Self Assessment Tax is definitely increasing.

Have not tested for ITR-3 and ITR-4, but expect same result.

We do not want conjectures, especially from a Point Collection Person like you.

Why don't you write to CCI forum owners with katori - "De De Baba Ke Naam Pe De De 10 Lakh Points".

Is it because of 234 b? We can see the section wise interest right?

Even online utility I think 234c not calculated properly even now under new regime.

I checked it by manually changing the date on my laptop to August 1 first, then also to August 31, 2025.

In both cases, the Self Assessment tax jumped up , both for ITR-1 and for ITR-2.

I did not do any more calculations, but wanted to make sure what is likely to happen in case we file after July 31, 2025.

ITR-2 excel utility would not permit json creation unless the tax payable is ZERO.

So to file, one must first pay the Self Assessment tax calculated by the utility.

I suspect same problem would occur with Offline Java utility for ITR-1, 4 and the online for ITR-1, 2, 4.

If you can, try to check. Online test cannot be done but offline Java utility for ITR-1, 4 could be tested.

I do not have the energy or resources (time and money) to recover any excess tax paid due to mistakes of tax filing utilities.

So, I am, now, desperately trying to file before 31 July. Still battling ITR-2 Excel utility to save json.

My purpose of posting the message was to let everyone understand the issue.

Some like @ Sabyasachi seem to be really DUMB and post silly replies.
