Income Tax refund not even processed after 5 months

Dear All,

I had filed my ITR for A.Y. 2025-26 on 20th July 2025. However, even after 5 months, my ITR is not even processed.

1) I raised a grievance through the portal, but they gave a bland response as under:

The return processing involves various automated validations and risk analysis. Any claims, deductions or tax credits made in the return will be examined and verified through a system-driven environment. This process in certain cases takes time. You may also note that as per provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the return of income is to be processed within 9 months from end of the financial year in which return is filed.

2) I also contacted the Assessing Officer (AO), who directed me to contact the efiling helpline.

3) I've called efiling helpline twice but their response is just plain that my return will be processed.

It has never taken 5 months for the ITR to be processed. Please advise what else can I do?

Check the status online on the income tax e-filing portal using the "view filed returns" or "Track Return" option with your acknowledgement number.

File a grievance on the e-filing portal under the "Grievance Redressal"

Contact the CPC directly via their dedicated helpline.

Consider a revised return or rectification if there are minor errors that might be causing the delay, but only if the original return was filed correctly.

Thank you but as stated in my initial post, I have already done all this. Is there any other way left?

Itr2...new regime. Filed 11/8...no demand/ no refund....no deductions claimed

AIS / TIS matched.... feedback also given in AIS wherever necessary

No gameing/ FA/ DVA. Etc

Still not processed

Do you mean the refund still hasn't been paid? Or that the return hasn't been processed at all? Each is a different thing (though related).

In any case, here's what I have:

Myself - ITR3 - filed 19 July - no refund claimed - still not processed
Brother - ITR3 - filed 19 July - Rs 3.5 lakh refund claimed - refund received 4 Oct
Sister in Law - ITR3 - filed 19 July - no refund claimed - still not processed
Mother - ITR3 - filed 26 Sep - no refund claimed - processed 29 Sep
Father - ITR3 - filed 26 Sep - no refund claimed - processed 27 Sep

And the Company where I work

ITR6 with Tax audit - filed 18 Nov - Rs 36 lakh refund claimed - refund received 1 Dec

I am pretty confident there is no mismatch in anything for the two ITRs that have not been processed. It's been exactly 5 months of nothing, so who knows what's going on.
