Dear Experts

I have received a compliance notice under sectio 80G for past 3 assessment years AY 22-23/ AY 23-24/ AY 24-25 for donations made to bonafide charitable organisations including PM Cares Fund, Indian Red Cross, Central Govt Hospital Poor Patient fund registered for 100% exemption and 50% exemption. I have every single receipt and all donations are completely legitimate. Yet the notice is asking me to revise my return and the sending email address cannot take replies. What should I do?

Thank you

Neel

  1. Check the official notice - Look for any alternate contact (phone no.,e-mail, or portal) mentioned in the compliance notice or the assessment order.
  2. Respond through the Income Tax portal - File a revised return or subit a response diretly on the e-filing portal using your login Attach all donation receipts and proof of eligibility (80G certificates).
  3. Contact the assessing officer - If the notice has an officer's name or jurisdiction, call the concerned income-tax office or use the taxpayer service helpline to explain the non-replyable email issue and ask for the proper subission method.
  4. Submit a physical response - If online submission is not possible, send a detailed reply with all supporting documents to the assessing officer's physical address mentioned in the notice (via registered post).
  5. Keep evidence - Retain copies of all receipts, the notice, and your submission proof for future reference or audit.
