Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the procedure for paying Securities Transaction Tax (STT). Initially, there was confusion about whether STT is paid via challan like other taxes. It was established that STT is automatically deducted by the service provider (broker) during the buying or selling of shares and securities, either through your demat account or at the time of trading. The user confirmed that STT can be paid through challan no. 282 via authorised banks, similar to other direct taxes, resolving their query.

Securities transaction tax is deducted by service provider.
