Section 28: Provisions relating to revision of returns have been rationalized. Limitation period for
revision of return has been reduced, and thus return could be revised within the next financial
year of the tax period of the original return. To illustrate, mistake in the monthly return of either
April 2011 or March 2012, could be rectified up to 31st March 2013.
Further, in case of excess payment of tax in the original return, provisions for filing of objection
u/s 28(2) of the Act have been omitted. Now, scope of revised return has been extended, which
would cover all types of mistakes.
Proviso has been inserted in section 28, which would allow the dealers to rectify their mistakes,
occurring in the Delhi VAT Returns during the year 2008‐09 to 2010‐11 by filing the revised
return by 31.12.2012.
