Quick Summary
This discussion addresses a common tax query regarding the interplay between filing a revised Income Tax Return (ITR) and receiving a notice for a defective original return. The user filed an initial return with an incorrect HRA calculation, later filed a revised return, and then received a notice stating the first return was defective. The core question is what happens now, especially when the revised return was filed before the defective notice was received. The advice given highlights the importance of correctly referencing the original ITR details in the revised filing and stresses that revised and defective returns are distinct processes.

Have you mentioned the receipt no and date of filing of original ITR in the revised ITR (in your case 2nd ITR).

Both the income tax returns filed need to be checked thoroughly.

High possbilities of errors.

Revised return and defective return are seperate things.
