Revesal of stale cheque

Dear sir,

Please tell me the answer of following query,

If a cheque is pending for clearance( cheque issued but not presented for payment), as on 31.03.2014 and after 31.03.2014 it got stale due to more than 3 month (let us as on 4.04.2014). So it will be reversed as on 4.04.2014.

My question is wheather i can reverse the same as on 31.03.2014 instead of 4.04.2014 because of closing of the books.

Please reply as soon as possible.
