An individual wants to start a new business of renting out laptops only within Maharashtra. He is not registered with Sales Tax / VAT / Service Tax department anywhere. Please inform whether he is required to register with any of these departments. Whether VAT or Sales Tax will be applicable to him?

Hi,
According to me Vat will not apply since it is for renting which comes under service.
You will be required to register under service tax as your turnover reach 10 lac and charge service tax thereafter.
