Registered a LLP now what taxes should i register for?

VAT (Legacy) 1446 views 2 replies

Hey Guys,

I've registered a LLP (registration address is the rented house I'm staying).  I'm based in bangalore. I'm going to sell t-shirts online. I'll also be selling t-shirts in bulk to colleges all over India. I don't have any idea of taxes, so I have a few queries.

  1. Should I take a small office space right now? Will there be any problem in registering for CST or VAT if I don't have any commercial office space?

  2. I get t-shirts from tamil nadu and our manufactuer doesn't give us any invoice/bill and we pay him in cash. Will there be any problem in this setup?

  3.  Should I register for CST and VAT? Can we register for vat once we cross 5 Lacs limit for karnataka?

  4. Any other advise you guys can give me. I'm a complete noob when it comes to taxes and stuff.

Thanks in Advance.

You have to register under KVT Act 2003 when your total sales in a year crosses Rs5 lakhs. For this purpose you must have an office/store.In your rented house also if you have a seperate area(apart from living space) a registration can be taken on that address. You should have purchase bills for the t-shirts brought from TN. If not, you have to raise self purchase bills from unregistered dealers and pay purchase tax to TN after taking a registration there. And then only you can bring those t- shirts to Karnataka. Otherwise your consignment can be intercepted on the way by checkpost authorities and create problems. You can ask your supplier to bring it to your premises at his risk, and then you raise self URD purchase bills charging 5% KVAT. Declare this amount in the returns and pay to govt. When the shirts are sold charge again 5% VAT on the sale value. In the returns deduct the amount already paid on purchases from the tax collected on sales and pay the balance to the govt.

Since you’re selling T-shirts online and in bulk across India, your LLP must register for GST because VAT is no longer applicable. GST becomes mandatory when your turnover crosses ₹20 lakh (₹40 lakh in some states) or if you sell through e-commerce platforms. You don’t need a separate office for this—your rented house address can serve as the registered office, provided you have the owner’s NOC and a rent agreement. You may also need Karnataka Professional Tax registration, a current bank account in the LLP’s name, and proper bookkeeping with timely filing of LLP and GST returns.
