Rectification (tds on sale of property)

TDS 564 views 3 replies

I have made a online payment of TDS against my purchase of property. After making a payment i noticed that I had chosen "OTHERS" field instead of "INCOME TAX".

I understand from TIN website / customer care that the payee bank can only modify few heads like date, PAN, assesment year, amount etc. But nothing is given about payment head.

I want to understand the consequence of choosing wrong head i.ed "OTHERS" instead of "INCOME TAX"

Also can someone suggest the way to rectify the mistake.

Thanks in Advance

Dear Meghna

Since you have made an online payemnt, any correction can be made only by the Assessing Officer to whom who have to submit a letter in specified format. It cannot be done by the bank as I understand it.

Please see the follwoing link for a better idea:

Thanks Ajay,

I still have little confusion. Assising Office of which area? Can it be subitted to any ITO in India?

Dear Meghna Regarding AO it is explained in that link I had sent. You have to submit to your jurisdictional AO. To find out your AO, go to incometaxefilingindia and click on KNOW YOUR JURIDICTIONAL AO link and enter your PAN. Regards Ajay
