Previous year

Under section 3
"Previous year" defined.

For the purposes of this Act, "previous year" means the financial year immediately preceding the assessment year "

1. For each assessment year, there can be only one previous year. 
2. As defined u/s 3 previous year means immediately preceding the assessment year. 
3. Assessee cannot have more than one previous year for one assessment year. This is more like interpreting the wordings given in the section. 
But to make it simple and plain section refers to the previous year as the year in which the income is earned. Only for that purpose, this was introduced. 
Please correct me if the above solution has an alternative view.
