plz tell what is the ideal approach for the preperation of SERVICE-TAX & VAT for PCC TAXATION?... will m.k. gupta sir's buk be sufficient or is something else also needed?... i ask bcoz the service-tax portion was especially tricky in nov 08 pcc... also, do we also need to go thru the relevant bare-act laws?...

Well i had my attempt in nov 08 and scored 58 in tax... Thanks to Service tax n VAT...ICAI has not been specific in these two areas as far as PCC syllabus is concerned..
Just basic knowledge about Service tax rules regulations @ other procedural aspects with little working knowledge in calculations is sufficient.. VAT is almost theory that can be asked for about 8-12 marks
Dr Vinod k Singhania s book is what i found good for Service tax n VAT

the whole of nov 2008 Service Tax and VAT was from Module
And they have been asking from Module only for all PCC attempt
They also ask atleast one question from latest amendments.
So, if you can follow my suggestion :
1. Go for Module - Service Tax and VAT
2. Read all the latest amendments from RTP or from any reference book
3. Read Manoharan or Singhania or any other reference book ( Priority - Module only )
And you'll score 100% guaranteed. I got 70 in November 08 PCC in Tax
