Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies how to claim Provident Fund (PF) deductions when filing ITR-1. It explains that only the employee's contribution to PF is eligible for deduction under Section 80C. The employer's contribution is generally exempt up to 12% of salary, and any amount exceeding this limit is added to your taxable income. For the employer's contribution, Section 80CCD(1) might apply.

Employee’s Contribution: Deduction under Section 80C is available.

Employer’s Contribution:  Exempt up to 12% of Salary. Thus Contribution made by employer exceeding 12% shall be added to employee’s salary Income.
Claim u/s 80C available on employee's contribution of Rs 20000/-
For employer contribution 80ccd(1) applies.
