Period in years for long term capital gains tax (Debt oriented mutual funds)

Tax queries 236 views 1 replies

If  I buy debt oriented mutual funds in november 2019 and redeem them in september 2022 ,will the capital gain be eligible for long term capital gains tax (20% with indexation) even if as in this case, its calendar 3 years but actually less than 3 years in terms of days?

Or,will short term capital gains tax be applicable in this case?

To qualify for long term the holding period is 3 years.

eg. 1-11-2019 to 31-10-2022 = 3 years. so redeem any time after 31-10-2022 will result into LTCG.

Redeem upto 31-10-2022 will be STCG.
