Are AI tools like ChatGPT actually useful for CA work? Real experiences wanted

681 views 4 replies

Honest question for practicing CAs and firm owners —

With AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude available today, which parts of your work have actually become easier? And which parts are still just as painful as before?

I ask because I see a lot of generic AI tools being built for the finance space — but most of them don't understand the actual ground reality of how CA firms operate in India.

What's the gap you wish someone would actually fix?

No agenda here. Just a builder trying to understand before building.

AI is excellent for high-volume, low-judgment tasks like drafting and initial data cleaning. However, for high-stakes advisory and litigation, it remains a "co-pilot" that requires constant supervision by a qualified professional.

That's really helpful to hear. When you say document collection is painful is it more about clients being slow to send things, or is it about organizing and verifying what they send once it arrives?

I have been using https://www.cntrlledger.com/ to automate lot of manual tasks that CA office perofrm using AI. Examples like convert credit card statement to Tally, draft replies to GST notices, Forensic scrutiny.

Update: Since posting this, I actually built an AI-powered tool specifically
for one CA pain point - GST invoice validation for e-commerce clients.

The problem: E-commerce seller clients upload invoices to Amazon/Flipkart,
get payment holds due to GST errors, panic and call you at 11 PM.

The AI solution: Pre-validation tool that checks 11 GST rules in 60 seconds
before they upload. Catches CGST vs IGST errors, calculation mistakes, etc.

InvoiceCheck.in - Your clients can self-check (saves them holds, saves you
reactive firefighting). ₹99/check or white-label for CA firms.

This is one example where AI actually saves CAs time vs replacing them.

Anyone else building AI tools for specific CA workflows? Would love to hear.
