When the constitutuion of the entity changes; it is no longer assessed in its origninal characteristics and therefore, the PAN changes/has to be applied afresh. For example, if a Partnership firm is converted into Prop. in between the year; then there are 2 sets of accounts - one for partnership and the other for partnership. Now for the second part i.e prop. the proprietor files its return on his/her individual PAN and for the first period PAN of the firm is used.
Is there a change in PAN Number if the constitution of the company changes viz From Proprietorship to Partnership to Pvt Ltd to Public Ltd.

Yes. Since PAN has got specific code for individuals / firms / companies , hence you should apply as soon as there is a change in constitution of the firm.
