Occupancy certificate vs possession frm builder:tax benefit

I had booked a flat in FY2013-2014 (loan approved and disbursement initiated in March 2014) and the builder (unlike others) received the Occupancy certificate from the Muncipality in Feb 2016. However the property is too big thus the allotment of flat started in Feb 2016 but by the time I took possession it was May 2017.

I am thoroughly confused if I can start claiming income benefits for home loan (principal and interest) from FY2016-17 or should it be from FY2017-18. Your help/ guidance is greatly appreciated.

Take the date of final payment to builder........
