No reasons given for assessment u/s 147 of it act

Tax queries 170 views 2 replies

Notice has been sent by income tax dept on 27 march 2019 for FY 2011-12 for income escaping assessment.

No reasons have been given on the notice and no amount which they feel has escaped assessment is mentioned on the notice.

Can we demand the reasons in writing from them ?

Today they have given a notice u/s 142(1) of the act and have demanded a lot of information about investments, assets etc (similar to a scrutiny assessment uestionarre) but still no reasons for the officer to believe that income has escaped assessment has been mentioned.

Please guide me on the course of action in such matters.

Better you file rectified return (if you wish) and give some details which are ready in hand, and after that request for the reason for re-opening. You will be provided it in writing. The reason is not indicated in notice itself.

Thank you
