Hello Friends.. I am Yash and i am giving my CA Final Group 2 exams in upcoming May 2013..This is my First attempt so i have little knowledge about certain things.. like amendments in DT & IDT

I have few queries and seeking solution for the same..

I have purchased for Direct Tax - Vinod Gupta Sir's Mat for May 2013. Since book is published on October 2012 so i was confused weather i need to do anything extra for May 2013.. Upto which date amendments are coming for May 2013??

I have purchased for Indirect Tax - Bangar & Bangar for May 2013 . Cover page of book prints Finance Act, 2012 & Amendments upto 31-10-2012.. is it sufficient or something is missing in this book for May 2013 attempt..

pls reply ASAP as i am really confused regarding all this & what exactly is the syllabus for both..

The books picked up by you, appears to be fine for May 2013 Examination.

DT - Vinod Gupta sometimes releases an additional material on the lines of ICAI's RTP; if that book is available in the market then it is advisable to pick that book.

In addition to the above 2 books, you need to complement your studies with following additional material of ICAI:

1. Supplementary Module (it covers the amendments in both DT and IDT)

Note: DT - Vinod Gupta covers this portion separately but IDT the Bangar book does not compile it separately but you need to make notes of the same for later revision

2. Practice Manual with Assessment Year 2013-14

3. Select case law Books

4. RTP

Kindly tell me upto which date amendments come in May Term Examinations???

What should i do for Indirect Tax additional to the bangar book i already have for May 2013???

Doing from Supplementary Material issued by ICAI will be enough??

The changes effected up to 31st October 2012 will be applicable for your May 2013 examination (6 months prior to the exam date). Therefore, you need not worry on the cut-off dates since your possessing the latest material relevant for May 2013 examination.

You may also pick the additional material, which I have mentioned above from exam point of view as it can fetch you good marks.

On your question about IDT, I feel Bangar's book is very comprehensive and will be sufficient for your preparation. However, the critical thing to bear in mind about this book is, it does not have summary version, so it is highly recommended to make your own notes as you start preparing for this paper.

The other additional feature of this book is, it has variety of numerical problems, which are asked for 25 Marks in the examination, practice them religiously

I feel study only from this material and try to revise as many a times to feel confident. You can also correlate and make notes from ICAI material from books that I mentioned. Practice Manual (A.Y 2013-14) will surely be a booster to assess your level of preparation.
