Mistake in return

I have to file return under sec 139(1)...while filing return by mistake I ticked on 148 rather than 139(1)....will it constitute a invalid return or it will be treated as defective return...what are the remedies available..?? its urgent becoz..if remedy is to file belated return very less time is left...!! return is of year A.Y 11-12.

Try to Revise your return u/s 139(5) ...if not able to do so the call CPC Helpline No..

Dear Prachi,

If you had filed the original return within the time limit mentioned u/s-139(1),then you can file a revised return u/s-139(5).And no need to file a belated return.

And if you had not filed the original return within the time imit mentione u/s-139(1) then I think you can only approach the AO and there are no other options available.
