Mandatory hard copy submission on demand

Recently Central Excise Audit Branch and Service Tax  asked us by written  to submit Hard copy of All online generated Returns for 3 years to their office before starting of audit.

Now the question is arised that whether we are Bound to submit the said Hard copies of returns OR there is any possibility to avoid of such submission.
