I recently got email from income tax department to file ITR. Since I worked as a salaried employee(Medical Officer) for a PSU(government of India undertaking), and the information code says 192A, is there any special consideration in this case?

How can I now receive the TDS certificate from my previous employer?

Which ITR form should I fill up?

Form 16 or form 16 A? I mean is there a salary limit upto which form 16 is to be filled?

A.Firstly, Form-16 is for TDS on Salary and Form-16A is for some other TDS Deductions.

B.There are two ways to find out whether your previous employer has deducted TDS and how much he has deducted:

1.Contact the Ex-Employer. (If he has deducted the TDS from your salary, he is supposed to give Form-16 on or before 31.05.2013 (for the FY2012-2013 (AY2013-2014)).).

2.Login with incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and check your form-26as to know what is the amount of TDS deducted.

C. You can file your return online. After logging in into the same website cited above, select upload return option. You have to choose the ITR. It depends on the other incomes you earned in that year. For salary alone you can go with ITR-1 (also called ITR-Sahaj).

You can also file your return offline also, by filling the same ITR-1 manually. You need to get the form from Income Tax Department.

Dear Sir,

extremely grateful for your kind reply.

1. I have already been noified, that the information code is TDS-192A, As par my understanding, TDS has been deducted from my salary and credit to Income Tax account. My question is, if compnay refuses to furnish TDS certificate now, what are the remedial steps?

(u/s 192A-pertaining to government employees?)

2. Regarding option 2 of viewing F26AS:

For logging onto TRACES, the information on the TDS certificate from PSU is also required for first time registration, which I do not have.

3. Separate Query:

For FY 2013-14, I have received form 16 A from my previous employer. But since I drew salary only, shouldn't it be form 16? So, while registering on TRACES, should I indicate deduction as non salary TDS?

OK,

I have been able to download Bank statements and form 26AS(TRACES website) for all the required years. Since all TDS is found in the form 26AS(salary, bank interest, fixed diposit), I will now be able to proceed with filing the ITR, wihout the need to get form 16/16A?

Dear Dr. Abu,

Greeting of the day,

If the TDS deducted are properly appearing in your form 26AS, you can get the credit for the same in your Income Tax Return without getting form 16.

Thanks to everyone for their prompt reply and insight.

I had contacted income tax office, and they have advised me to contact my AO, to get form 16. How can I get the email for my jurisdictional AO. I have the code details.

I tried to check through the Field Offices link, till now have not made much progress.

Follow up

I downloaded the directory for WB, and have ultimately located my AO.

New issue has arisen.

After generating XML file for ITR filled form, I tried to uplad the form for assessment year 2013-14. But response came,. that due date is already over. Kindly advice.

Under Income Tax section, my filing has become invalid, as the last date for AY13-14(belated filing), was 31.03.2015. Is there any remedial steps? I have the required XML ready.
