Information Technology Amendment bill 2006 was passed by the Parliament on December 23rd and 24th with some amendments. One of the amendements was to rename the Bill as Information Technology Amendment Bil 2008 and after passage it became the Information Technology Amendment Act 2008. Hence ITA Bill 2006 became ITA Act2008.
The Act was consented to by the President of India on 5th February 2009.
On October 27, 2009, a notification was issued to consider the Act effective from that date.
Hence ITA 2000 stands amended as per ITAA 2008 with effect from October 27, 2009. We often refer to this new version of ITA 2000 as ITA 2008 for clarification.
