I am serving with Govt of India, my Income Tax is, thus, deducted at source. For FY 2007-08, I had filed ITR on 31 Jul 08. I have now recd intimation u/s 143(1), stating that TDS was Rs 23,377, Demand was Rs 23,377 (Rs 22,696 + Rs 681 (Edu Cess)) BUT an amount of Rs 1,123 has been indicated u/s 234C. Now I am required to pay Rs 1,120 (r/off) !! Can you guide me, what could be the reason for this tax demand ?

I have a similar issue. I filed my return for financial year 2007-08 on 31/07/2008. As per my form 16, my taxable income was Rs 4,91,270 and a TDS of 99272 was deducted by my company and I filed my return with this information and got an acknowledgement also. Now on 29/03/2010 I received an intimation (dated 14/03/2010) under section 143(1) stating that my returned income was Rs 5,85,870(a difference of Rs 94,600) and tax is due on it to the amount of Rs 37,321(interest of Rs 7008 u/s 234(B) and Rs 1081 u/s 234(C)).
Firstly I am not sure how this difference of Rs 94600 has come and also the notice has come almost 20 months late so should I pay it or not.
Please advice.
