LTCG on sale of unlisted shares is taxed at 20 per cent when indexation is applicable, while short term capital gains are taxed at the income tax slab rates applicable to your income.

indexation benefit is available if the holding period is more than 36 months it is long term capital gain .
Otherwise short term capital gain .
long term capital gain after indexation benefit is taxable @ 10% in excess of Rs.1 lac.

Unlisted shares cant be sold now as per sebi guidelines regulation 40.
