hi swapnil dabke

i have referred this book .

major drawback of this book is

> u cannot revise from this book in exams time

> after giving case law  no conclusion is given

> in case law unnecessary detail is given & most of the cases are not concluded in the light of relevant provision

>no summary of topics are given

>in this book for full understanding of provisions u have also need to read bare act portion

so my advice don't fully depend on this book for exams

Dear Tejinder, thank u so much for pointing out the defects of that buk. I wud be grateful if u could similarly specify the good things of that buk. Also tell me whether u use another book. If u are referring to any other buk, could u please specify the advantages as well as disadvantages of that buk(just the way u stated the drawbacks of Bangar). Waiting for ur reply.

@ Swapnil

Thanks a lot for posting this query.

ajay jain is also good

Ajay Jain book is not available in the market.

In Law point kolkata, they told me ajay book will not publish from this time.

Now I m confuse.

To all,

why cant you go for VSDatey or Saravana prasat & G Shekar very good from CA final exam point of view.

Alternatively you can you use the institute compliation for your practical question....

Dear Sir, I have bought VS Datey & it seems to be a nice book(have just read 1 chapter from excise). But it does not have many problems..Also many people are saying it is a very vast book dealing with many issues irrelevant for the exams. For me time is at premium since I am doing self study & my preparation upto now is not very great.

In my opinion, Paduka is not at all suitable for self study. It does not help u in understanding the topic. It can be used for only solving problems. As regards compilation, it is not available for indirect tax.

Please suggest any book:

1)which gives conceptual knowledge & is not purely exam oriented(like Paduka)

2)which is not very vast(since time is a factor)

3)which contains a reasonable number of problems.

I want a book similar to T.N.Manoharan's direct tax book(which explains concepts well but is not at all lengthy)

Suggest you use institute's study material. Subject is well explained.

You can download soft copy from Institute's web side Students->BOS Study Portal->Final->Study Material

New edition for May/Nov 2011 exams will be available by 1st week of March 2011.

Base your studies on Study material Supplement with V S Datey's book

You can try with Dipak Gupta notes  which explains the topics in a simple language and also has got relevant practical case studies and problems.

Deepak gupta's book is also not available all over India.Ajay jain' book is out of market.

I think there is a crisis of student friendly book in IDT.

There is no crisis for good books, all u need to do is change ur mindset..

Bangar one of the best book for ca final idt... and if u want to solve more practical questions than can refer to Insti publication (i.e. Complier)

Further in case one wants to have deep understanding of excise n customs than refer V.S., Datey book.

But I would suggest stick to one book only n dat is bangar....

Don't run here n there for every notes or books, one gud book is enough for preparation...

Dont be confused... Take one book. The main object is to clear your concept and make your base strong.Once your concept is clear any type of question, you can solve ealily.

All the Best.

If you need Conceptual clarity                                     :              DIPPAK GUPTA or NS GOVINDAN or VS DATEY

If you need for concepts as well exam orientation:             YOGENDRA BHANGAR and PADUKA Publications

If you have conceptual clarity and worked on few problems in IDT that would be sufficient...Take any ONE BOOK and stick to it. If Possible make your own notes for revision BEFORE EXAMINATION...Because You need to Brush up each and every topic before exam...NO CHOICE for STUDY though INSTITUTE will give CHOICE...

I heard you can order Dippak Gupta books from Pooja Law House...Try alternative means to buy books

ALL THE VERY BEST
