It is Old & also all Amendments are not incorporated as the material is printed quite before Time & many amendments come afterwards & are made applicable for Exams, so You have to refer some Other Book of the latest edition to your attempt. I can suggets the ICAI recommended book of V S Datey & along with that you can look in for Yashwant Mangal Hand Book for Last day Revision & Of Course Practice Manuals, RTPs & Amendments Book & Case Laws issued by ICAI. Same is Applicable for DT only is that You can take Book of T N Manoharan or any book you feel comfortable

better go with Yogendra Bangar for IDT

It is unfortunate to note that either you are not aware of the facts or you are ill informed about the ICAI study material. The story, which you are saying, was true very long ago not now. Every academic Year the institute publishes the latest study material applicable for ensuing May and November examination. Also, note any changes is published by Institute in the form of Supplementary material, select case law series, RTP, Announcements made on ICAI website etc.

Please note, if you are writing the May 2013 examination the Institute has latest study material available at its branch and chapter offices. Else, one may download the material from the below link:

Yes, it may be true that many would not have a special liking for ICAI study material and hence prefer standard author's Text book but please do not make generalized statements.
